Biographie et démarche

Il fut l'un des quatre premiers artistes de guerre (grade de capitaine), les autres étaient , Maurice Cullen, Charles Simpson et Fred Varley. Nommé par le Fonds de souvenirs de guerre canadiens.(FSGC), il démissionna officiellement le 1er août 1919.

Entre 1906 et 1909 il a voyagé en Europe. Il a principalement visité la France, les Pays-bas, l'Espagne, l'Italie et l'Angleterre.

Entre 1889 et 1900 il fut peintre en bâtiment et pompier.
